Aerial view of a tropical coconut palm plantation, the kind of estate where Kudzu RB Lure pheromone traps are used to monitor and trap the coconut rhinoceros beetle

The coconut rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros) bores into the crowns of coconut and oil palm, cutting fronds and reducing yield. Kudzu RB Lure uses the beetle's own aggregation pheromone, ethyl 4-methyloctanoate, to draw beetles into a trap for monitoring and mass-trapping.

How Kudzu RB Lure works

  • Attract: the slow-release pheromone sachet lures adult rhinoceros beetles from the surrounding area towards the trap.
  • Trap: beetles drop into a bucket or vane trap and are retained, so adults are taken out of the local breeding population.
  • Monitor: trap counts tell you beetle pressure over time so you can time other measures.
  • Integrate: use alongside breeding-site sanitation (rotting logs, mulch heaps) and biological agents such as Metarhizium for an integrated pest management program.
What a pheromone trap does and does not do: RB Lure is a monitoring and mass-trapping tool, not a stand-alone measure. Capture rates and any effect on crown damage depend on trap density, placement, servicing, surrounding breeding sites, and area-wide participation. We make no guarantee of a particular catch, damage reduction, or yield outcome. Results should be judged from your own trap counts and field assessments.

Why plantations choose RB Lure

  • Species-specific pheromone, not an insecticide. The pheromone targets the rhinoceros beetle and fits IPM programs. The lure is deployed in the trap, not applied to the crop; handle and store the sachets per the supplier's safety data sheet.
  • Simple to deploy. One trap per two hectares in the product guidance, up to four sachets per trap in high-pressure areas, and a regular sachet replacement schedule.
  • Supply. Manufactured for Chemiseed Sdn. Bhd. by ChemTica International, S.A. (Costa Rica); supplied in the Philippines by Kudzu Seeds Trading.
  • Trial to program volumes. We quote from single-estate trial quantities to cooperative and government program volumes; minimum order and lead time are confirmed on the quotation.

How to order

RB Lure is supplied by quotation only. Tell us your crop, area, and beetle pressure and we will recommend trap numbers and a replacement schedule and send a quote. Price, availability, and delivery timing are confirmed on the quotation. We reply within one business day (Philippine time).

Frequently asked questions

Which beetle does RB Lure target?
The coconut rhinoceros beetle, Oryctes rhinoceros, a major pest of coconut and oil palm across Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The pheromone is species-specific.
How many traps do I need?
The product guidance is one trap per two hectares (about five acres), with up to four sachets per trap in high-pressure areas. This is a starting point rather than a fixed rule; we confirm trap numbers for your area and beetle pressure on the quotation.
How often do I replace the sachet?
Every 8 to 10 weeks (manufacturer specification), or sooner if the catch rate drops. Trap counts help you judge timing.
Is it safe and does it fit organic or IPM programs?
The sachet holds a species-specific pheromone, not an insecticide, so it fits integrated pest management programs; handle and store it per the supplier's safety data sheet. We do not hold or claim organic certification for RB Lure, so if you are working to an organic standard please check acceptability with your own certifier. It works best combined with breeding-site sanitation and biological agents.
Will RB Lure eliminate my beetle problem?
No single tool eliminates the coconut rhinoceros beetle. RB Lure removes adult beetles and shows you the pressure trend, but longer-term management combines trapping with breeding-site sanitation and biological agents, ideally across neighbouring blocks. We do not guarantee a particular catch, damage level, or yield outcome.
Can you supply cooperatives and government programs?
Yes. We quote for single estates as well as cooperative and government program volumes; minimum order and lead time are confirmed on the quotation. Government buyers (LGUs, DA and PCA programmes) can request a quotation with the buyer type LGU or government programme.
