Soil Enhancer vs Fertilizer: How SoilBoost EA Differs

Healthy soil profile showing crop root zone

Soil enhancer vs fertilizer: what is the difference?

A soil enhancer and a fertilizer do two different jobs. A fertilizer supplies plant nutrients directly. A soil enhancer like SoilBoost EA improves the soil so the crop can take up and hold those nutrients more efficiently. They are complementary, not interchangeable. SoilBoost EA is a humic soil conditioner derived from Leonardite, manufactured by Chemiseed Sdn. Bhd. It is not a replacement for your fertilizer program.

Side-by-side comparison

Attribute SoilBoost EA (soil enhancer) Conventional fertilizer
Primary role Improves soil structure, nutrient retention, and biological activity Supplies plant nutrients (N, P, K) directly
Nutrient content Low direct NPK (about 1% N, trace P and K); 60.6% humic acid (CDFA method) High, concentrated N, P, and K
Main mechanism Humic substances raise cation exchange capacity, chelate locked nutrients, and support soil microbes Releases soluble nutrients for immediate uptake
Effect on your fertilizer Improves nutrient availability and uptake efficiency, helps reduce leaching losses It is the nutrient source itself
Soil structure and biology Improves over repeated applications Little structural benefit; heavy sole use can acidify soil
Typical rate 50 to 100 kg/ha broadcast; 10 to 15 kg/ha by fertigation Set by crop nutrient demand and soil test
Best use Alongside fertilizer, to get more from each application Meeting the crop's nutrient requirement

Why they work best together

In acidic, weathered tropical soils, a share of applied fertilizer can be locked up or lost to leaching before the crop uses it. The humic substances in SoilBoost EA raise cation exchange capacity and chelate nutrients, which supports better nutrient availability and uptake across a range of soil pH. Used with your normal fertilizer program, the goal is to get more value from the nutrients you already apply, while gradually improving soil structure and microbial life. SoilBoost EA does not change the nutrients your crop needs; it helps the soil deliver them.

What SoilBoost EA is not

SoilBoost EA is not a complete NPK fertilizer and should not replace one. Its direct nutrient content is low by design (about 1% N, with trace phosphorus and potassium). It is also not a soil pH regulator: the product itself is acidic (pH 3.84), and its benefit comes from improving nutrient availability and chelation rather than from raising soil pH. Results depend on your soil, crop, and management.

Frequently asked questions

Can SoilBoost EA replace my fertilizer?

No. SoilBoost EA is a soil conditioner with low direct nutrient content. It is designed to be used alongside your fertilizer program to improve nutrient availability and uptake, not to supply the crop's full nutrient requirement.

Does SoilBoost EA reduce how much fertilizer I need?

It can help your fertilizer work more efficiently by improving nutrient retention and availability, which may reduce losses to leaching. Any change to fertilizer rates should be based on soil testing and your own field results, not assumed.

How and when do I apply it?

Common methods are broadcast incorporation at 50 to 100 kg/ha before planting, or fertigation at 10 to 15 kg/ha. Always pair the rate with the method. For plantation-scale orders we can provide a site-specific recommendation.
